I typically cruised my old, tired engine at 2450. Can I bump that up some with my fresh, strong engine?

Hi Larry.
My O-200 powered 140A isn't flying yet (motor is still on the 150, but I do have the STC!) , but I had a 150F that I cruised at 2400-2450 and was planning on the same with the 140.
Hope some of the O-200 flyers will join in.

I use 2550. I believe this is 75% power.

Now if you're flying power line patrol, and want to increase your time on station, I use 2200-2250. When I want to go someplace 2450, but that's me. Others report higher power settings. Big thing here is the faster that crankshaft turns the more fuel you're going to burn. All boils down to what you are trying to do. Just my 2 cents.

2450 rpm for me too. Results in ~105-110 mph on the airspeed indicator.

Just out of curiosity, what RPM do you guys set with an 85-12F with a 69.5X49 prop?
I vary between 2300 to 2500......depends on if I want to get there in an hour or an hour
and 5 minutes.

I'm a little late to the party,
I cruise at 2500 consistently. That being said, some engines are smoother at one RPM or another. My engine likes the 2500-2600 RPM range. Below 2450 it is noticeably rougher. No scientific data, but I've always felt that a smooth running engine is probably a happy engine, so I leave the RPM's where they are the smoothest.
I had a Mooney (yeah......I know..........somebody's gonna kick in with ..........."I'm sorry") for almost 20 years. It also had very defined "smooth" Rpms' even with the constant speed prop and much more availability to move around RPM and manifold pressure, I typically cruised at the smoothest RPM.
