My daughter's tailwheel checkout

Post by 8455 »

My daughter Gretchen earned her tailwheel endorsement yesterday. Her instructor is the kind of CFI who believes that a pilot needs to be ready to use all resources available, including gravel roads!😁

She received lots of great real world knowledge, and I feel better about turning her loose with the plane!

Congratulations to her. My daughter is probably going to start lessons soon. My son doesn’t show much interest . I am sure you are very proud of her accomplishment. Good job!

That is a great picture! Living on the East Coast, locations like that just don't exist. Where is that road?

Congrats,

Hi Michael,

I don't know where the road is! I live in Northeastern Colorado, the instructor took her out to practice on a bunch of different surfaces that day. I'd guess somewhere out East of Greeley, looks like some oil tanks in the background..

Rob, that's the only pic I have of her training.

Congrats,
I live in the southern part of New Jersey, in the Pinelands National Preserve area. Dozens of cranberry bogs with roads and dirt strips used by crop dusters and farmers. Landed on a few of them over the years.

Congratulations Terry, and even more congratulations to your daughter. Nothing is more pure in aviation than flying a feather light taildragger. I have flown with heavy iron pilots who should have done that. Regarding the road in the photo, I did a double take thinking it may be one in my local area. On second observation I noticed that the grass on either side of the road is mowed. Here in Kansas we're not that sophisticated. ;)
