New guy here. I just purchased a 140 to teach my kids to fly in and due to weather I haven’t been able to pick it up yet! I own a 195 and I just couldn’t bear to have them learn in a nose dragger. It will also make for a good time builder and transition airplane to the 195.
I have a few questions that I couldn’t find searching the forum. Can anyone give me an overview of a standard pattern. Speeds and flap setting?? It’s a 1948 140 w/90hp.
Takeoff-Normal flap setting?
Vy-70 I think I found
Downwind speed?
Base speed?
Final speed?
When and how much flaps for Normal and cross wind landings.
I’ll get a checkout but would like to know what the experts think!!!

Well, you'll get a lot of opinions, no doubt. There are (AFAIK) no manufacturer supplied numbers.
You will find the flaps don't do much. They're good for lowering the nose somewhat; they act like tiny speed brakes. Good training aids for when you get a plane with "real" flaps. That said, I don't use them until I'm on final and then I use them all, or none. For training, no reason not to use one notch midfield down wind and another on base.
None. Full flaps at about 40 mph if you want to do a soft field takeoff. Just don't forget to retract them when you get a little faster.Takeoff-Normal flap setting?

What John said. And just for clarity, mph, not knots. Good for training. In reality, I typically fly somewhat faster on downwind and base and slow to 60 mph over numbers for 3 pt, maybe 60-65 for wheel landings. Just so I don’t make life too difficult for the controllers at our busy airfield fill of Archers flying 3 mile finals.

There's a copy of that document along with a lot of other helpful information in the Cessna 120/140 Reference Manual that's sold in the Association Store. Good manual to have if you're new to the aircraft.
