1/8 rivets on splice plate

Post by 8187 »

Has anybody actually usedor have a plane with 1/8 rivets in place of the 3/32 rivets on the splice plate that runs down the side? I found some old threads on here about AP using them in place of the old style rivets. Seems like it would work ok, but I feel like it might distort the skin using a bigger rivet. If so does that really matter beside aesthetics? Thanks guys!

I suspect the reason for using the 1/8" rivets is aesthetics. "Back then" there ware a lot more rivet styles in common use. Today you're pretty much stuck with "universal" rivets.

You would, of course, drill out the holes to accommodate the larger rivets, so I wouldn't expect any unusual distortion of the skin.
