Hi, I have a 85 hp Continental in my 140 with a quick oil drain valve. You just push it up an it snaps open with a curved clip on both sides. Anyway it’s dripping oil slowly and I can’t find it online anywhere. Does anyone know if this type has a replaceable o-ring or do you have to replace it?

I believe it has an o-ring (99.44% certainty) but I don't know what size. Randy may know.

Sounds like the QD valve in my C-85. Below is a picture from ebay to compare.

I have removed my quick drain and gone back to the original plug after seeing the sludge buildup at the bottom of the oil tank. I now rinse out my oil tank at least twice at every oil change and believe I get better draining action with the plug removed than with a quick drain in place but open. Probably just a mind game myth of mine but it makes me feel better regardless of the blood letting while re-safetying the plug.

That's the same valve I was thinking of. The O-ring PN listed above should be MS, not RS, and any well stocked maintenance facility should have one. You can get it from Aircraft Spruce, too, but the shipping will probably be 10x the cost of the part. In a pinch (non-approved information follows) the -109 is the (SAE) size and any good quality Buna-N o-ring should work.

Steve, I rinse out my oil tank with solvent, letting it sit in the tank for a few minutes prior to draining it. Then I let it dry out before servicing with oil.

I've never used solvent, just poured an extra quart of oil thru after draining. I imagine the solvent really gets the tank clean. If the tank is warm from the old oil it probably helps dry it out quickly.
I'm not sure the path the solvent would take on the way to the bottom of the tank. Any chance of it washing oil off a cam lobe or lifter and creating a dry surface during start up? I guess the fresh oil would follow the same path and re-oil everything!
I may try the solvent the next change and see what it washes out.

Continental C-series engines are what's referred to as "semi-dry" sump. The oil is contained in a tank beneath the engine and no moving engine parts are in the tank, only the oil pickup tube. If you pour solvent in the fill tube, and don't overfill the tank, it will not get into the engine itself.
