Engine Mount

Post by 7985 »

According to the engine manual, the torque for engine mounting bolts for the Cessna 140 is 140 inch-pounds! Does this seem like a really low number? Can anyone verify this spec?

If you have conical engine mount bushings with no sleeve inside of them, then 60-80 inch-lb is correct. Much more and you'll just crush the bushings and end up with metal to metal contact between the mount and the engine case.Cessna called out a metal sleeve inside the bushing. Personally, I don't understand why; there isn't room for them, but, if you have then then there's something for the torque to bear on, still, no point in going any higher.

If you have the -14 case, or an O200, then you have the Lord style mounts and the torque is 180-190.

Thanks for the feedback. I will check the engine bolt torques.

But the torques that are supposed to be 120-140 inch pounds are the ones that bolt the engine mount to the airframe. I thought that these torques should be a lot higher.

Those would not be found in the engine manual. Where did you get them? I would use the torques from AC43.13-1b for that size bolt.
