I am replacing the tank (e-bay purchase) in my metalized wing. I found felt below the tank but the old tank came out with a thin rubber strip glued to the bottom of the strap and some home improvement style weatherstrip between the rubber and the tank. I'm guessing this was originally felt too? From prior posts, I think the consensus of the group is to use something other than felt that doesn't absorb moisture. Moisture isn't too much a concern to me as I'm in (very dry) Southern Arizona - but the next owner might not be.
Thanks for your help.

Re: fuel tank straps
They "Had" felt in the 40's. There are better products today. It's for abrasion protection.
