Fuel Gauge gasket

Hi All, I need to replace the gasket on a fuel gauge to tank flange. They are, as you know, unavailable. I'm considering two options if someone doesn't have a better idea. (1) I can buy a small sheet of Viton rubber and cut my own. It will be challenging to cut one that fits properly. (2) I can use a few o-rings to seal the interface. The problem here is I can't find Viton o-rings that large, I don't use auto gas but I'd like to keep that option open. My understanding is using regular gasket material is not advisable with auto gas.

What are you using?

Try and find a local propane dealership and ask for their Rochester gauge gaskets, this one is Buna-N and works just fine. Don't reef down on the guage mounting screws or you'll mess up the ears...

Tractor Supply has gascolator ones that fit. I think they are cork.

I saved this picture a while back from previous forum, John Deere Gascolator. Would the gasket be appropriate for the fuel gauges??

Thanks everyone. I actually have a gascolator gasket in the hangar and I'll give it a try tomorrow. If not, Tractor Supply, here I come

These work pretty good, too (Pg. 603, AC Spruce Catalogue): Gasket for 05-16700 ........................................P/N 15-4 ................$3.65

I was actually going to try and laser cut my own out of cork. I will let you know how they turn out.

It'd be neat to fab as "owner supplied" part I guess...but, can't imagine why one would go to the trouble with the OEM type BUNA gasket available from Spruce for less than $4 bucks

I used the ones from Spruce last year and had the gauges overhauled by Air Parts of Lock Haven. Gauges came back like new, for much cheaper than a replacement from Cessna (mine started leaking into the gauge area).

Same here, Bob, 'though I had a spare gauge that had already been OH'd when I spied a bit of fuel in the gauge area (that'll get your attention

). I was searching for replacement gaskets when my IA said "why don't we just use these correct ones from Spruce?"

). It's a hassle to change'em out (From a career providing insurance for the petroleum industry, I have great respect for fuel vapor/static spark risks), but relatively easy & a good idea to replace as preventative every few years IMO. Mac
