I'm really impressed by the design of the B&C 30A alternator.
It is on my "want" list.

Re: Generator AMP Rating
I don't see a gear driven conventional B&C alternator on ACS that is STC'd. The only conventional ones say that they mount on accessory pads. I only see the external spinning dynamo style for continentals on ACS which are also not STC'd. When the time comes I'm going to stick with the Plane Power conversion. Not saying the dynamo version is bad, just think I would have a hard time getting that approved.

From B & C Website (RE the 30 Amp): "Please contact us about an STC'd version." FWIW. Re: Generator AMP Rating
Oh, thats interesting Mac, thanks. Just checked their website, I do see that notation, I wonder what the cost would be. If its even only $200 more then it's the same price as the Plane power setup.

Re: Generator AMP Rating
No clue on the cost w/STC. FWIW, we (the Association) have had a relationship with Bill Bainbridge for many years. While he's officially retired now, his son is truly a "chip off the ole block" and laser focused on quality, innovative products for "our" kind of aviating. Their market seems to remain predominantly in the experimental area, but they have always been super helpful with providing "adapting counsel" (for approval) to support keeping our aircraft safely & practically(!) "modernized". Mac

Re: Generator AMP Rating
If you are at all interested in the B&C systems, I would encourage you to reach out, via email or call. TJ over at B&C is great and will patiently answer every question you have. My kit was STC'd but not for the C120, so I needed a field approval, TJ helped a lot in making sure all the paperwork was in line with the FSDO. I chose B&C over plane power because of the tech support, but their system is also lighter than the plane power alternators which are pretty heavy comparatively. 2 cents.

The B&C Alternator is approved for the 120/140/140A and many others on Classic Aero's AML STC.

I have attached an email exchange that I had with Laurie from Classic Aero and have attached what she attached in the email. I'm happy I can share this info because when I was investigating alternator kits, I had to do a lot of legwork to try and figure out what was out there; I'll save you that!
Laurie can be reached at LEder@Luscombesilvaire.info
It looks like a great kit and I hope to add it to my airplane in the future.

Hi Elliot,
Thank you for your inquiry on the B & C 30-amp alternator. Classic Aero sells an STC for the B & C alternator as a kit. It has everything you need to install it. It has wide applicability on all the small Continental engines. We have included the STC cover page and next 2 pages. The second 2 pages list the airframes by make and model. However, page 1 paragraph 5 (as notated) also includes in the STC any airframe that has the listed engines installed. That allows owners who have changed engines on their vintage aircraft to use the STC, even if their Make is not listed.
The generator comes with the generator gear set installed. We charge a core charge on the individual items as follows:
1. Hub 180.00
2. Retainer 22.00
3. Bushing 60.00
4. Gear 265.00
5. Nut 23.00
Total 550.00
Return gear sets to us at:
Classic Aero LLC
2487 S Gilbert Rd. #106-113
Gilbert, AZ 85295
Our customers who already have an engine with electrical system return the gear set to us for inspection. The second attachment is a breakout of the gear set. Please note that the retainer and hub require the newer CM version. We have also included an attachment with a comparison of 2 hub styles that are in use. Only the newer one is acceptable for this generator, so occasionally we must reject the old-style hubs.
Customers who are adding an electrical system can either procure and provide to us the components or opt to buy the alternator and pay the core charge.
The price of the alternator with STC is $954.95 + core charge (if applicable) and $15.00 shipping.
The alternators are manufactured in Newton, Kansas.
Approximate times:
Prep/Bench work on wiring harness ~ 3 hours
Installation on A/C ~ 3-5 hours
Total Time - 6 – 8 hours
Please review and let me know if you have any other questions.
