Yes, the recurring seat rail inspection AD is still required with the STC.

Re: C150 seats versus Original seats
Been doing fine, Retired from Thrush over 3 yrs ago, bought a sailboat and have been living on it and cruising the Caribbean during winter months ( Summer months have storms they name, and should be avoided by small boats )
But with the Virus shutting down cruising, and Mortgage rates being low, we bought a house with hanger at Loves Landing in Weirsdale FL. Got the 140 out of storage and depickled it last week, ran fine after sitting for over three years.
Will sell the boat and get back to playing with airplanes I guess, maybe see about getting my IA back.

I have a hard time understanding many of these “improvements” seems many of them increase weight and bring with them Recurring AD’s as well as cost quite a bit.klyde sessna wrote: ↑Tue Sep 01, 2020 6:56 pm Yes, the recurring seat rail inspection AD is still required with the STC.
I think I’d be more interested to see if Oregon Aero could do anything with a stock 140 seat myself than go with a 150 seat, but that’s just me.

My Lowe STC installation weighed 5.5 lbs. not including the seats.

Re: C150 seats versus Original seats
I find this discussion interesting as I am also concerned about weight vs features. In a thread in the technical discussions section, Steve H said he weighed his original C140 seats and the C-150D seats he was going to use. “140 seats: 28.6 lbs (2 bottoms and back). Both 150 seats: 21.6 lbs (without the rails and what ever else will be necessary to attach the rails)”. So, in his case that is a savings of 7 pounds. Add back the 5.5 for the other parts and at least you aren’t (apparently) gaining weight.

Re: C150 seats versus Original seats
I had to remove the 1983 C-150 Unapproved seat conversion to make mine legal. Basically it was the C-150 rails mounted on square aluminum stock and bolted to the seat pan. That hardware weighed 5.4 pounds. So the Lowe STC hardware was just .1 pound more. Much more expensive and complex to fabricate and install, however. It appears this is now our only option.

Be glad that option exists. You are not the first one who has had his plane grounded because of an unapproved seat installation.

That is probably 140 seats that still have the original cushions in them. I forget off the top of my head but I beleive once I installed new padding and fabric on my seats I think they weighed like 16lbs all together... The cushion especially in the seat back was crazy heavy, it was made of horse hair and the cushion alone weighed 8lbs... The new foam I installed weighed under 2lbs... So there is definitely weight to be lost with the existing seats.

Re: C150 seats versus Original seats
I'm not certain where the numbers are coming from, but the C-150 seats will weigh more. They probably will cause you to lose a little head room.
I will gladly take those two small deficits to be replaced with the amazing amount of extra cockpit room and versatility that the C-150 seats offer in the 120/140 aircraft!
