Original Seats for pattern and color matching

Post by 8322 »

Ladies and Gents,

I am redoing my seats, under the ugly 1980 uphostry, there sat the original 47 seat covers on the bottom, none on the back. They are lace thin in many areas and ripped in others, but are great for making the pattern for new ones.

I would be happy to share the pattern, trace it out and post it or send it if it would help anyone, or take up close pics of the leather and the cloth if someone wants to try to find material that matches the original...

It was a very "Sentimental" moment, taking the seam ripper to these seats, I did not feel bad for doing it as its in an effort to preserve the aircraft, but to think about whose hands sewed this material together 73 years ago and that they likely thought they were making these crafts for the boys fresh back from defeating the Nazis and maybe with the same hands that crafted the airplane that was flown to defeat them... Taking it apart I felt very much the part of "curator" of my flying museum, respecting the craftsmanship of the past to enable her to work towards another 73 years of flying!
