2021 Convention

I just noticed the Convention will be at KFFC, Falcon Field.
I’m sure all have noticed, but Falcon Field is within the 30 NM ring of ATL, and therefore unless I’m mistaken to attend you will have to be ADSB equipped.

I came to the same conclusion when it was announced. I was hoping to be able to attend the next one, but I won't be able to by airplane. I try to avoid areas that need all that equipment like the plague! (or Covid!) I'm glad for all of you that have the equipment, it's just not for me.

It is inside the 30 mile ring. So technically you need ADS-B out. I've contacted our host to see what "local flying conditions are"........in case there is some exemption.

It might be possible to get a temporary exemption for an access corridor....

FAA ADAPT tool for ADSB exemptions: https://sapt.faa.gov/adapt-start.php

From what I saw, you must have a working Mode C transponder to get an exemption under ADAPT.

If you have an electrical system but now transponder...no exemption.

If you have a non-electric 120, you are exempt from the 30nm ring anyway.

You might be able to get a group of planes in via formation flight as long as the lead plane is properly equipped. Something to investigate.

That's worked well before and I understand that it's an "option" the convention committee has discussed and may suggest for those who may need. From 24 years flying in the Atlanta area airspace, I've found it extremely GA (and, VA!) friendly...almost to a genuine level of "we're from the FAA and we're here to help...really :D ". Mac

I lived and worked in Georgia for a number of years and was often at FFC, it’s where Aircraft Spruce is and also very close to the FAA ACO and FSDO.
it’s the one place I’ve been ramp checked.

It’s very easy to stay out of class B, the ceiling is quite high there, it’s only the 30 NM ring that gets you.

However it’s not somewhere you would want to try to sneak in , the FAA is there frequently.

I flew an S2R-T660 there to be test flown by the FAA test pilot for Certification, he lived near there and was coming back from flying the G-650 in Savannah in a rental 310, when he pre flighted it he noticed a cracked spinner bulkhead so he took the spinner off and came on.
Well an FSDO guy was there who proceeded to climb his behind for flying an aircraft with the spinner removed.
It was interesting to watch one branch of the FAA fight another branch

Lakeland is within the 30nm ring of Tampa I believe, and it’s been awhile since I have attended Sun-N-Fun, but I believe no radio and of course no mode C aircraft used to attend every year. So there is a way, maybe. I don’t know about this year’s Sun-N-Fun since the ADSB mandate is active

I’d try for a checkpoint due South, then proceed direct to FFC, minimize the time in the veil.

Sun N Fun 2021 is advertising no non-ADS-B equipted flights in or out unless your aircraft is ADS-B exempt. ADAPT waivers are encouraged.

With thousands of airports to choose from, maybe this Association needs to look elsewhere?
