Re: Primer stripper
Do you have access to a store that provides paint and supplies to the auto body repair trade ? They will have a good stripper for sale.

Re: Primer stripper
Thanks for all of the help and here are the results.
MEK- A lot of rubbing with Scotch bite pad and comes off very slow. Stinks!
Acetone- pretty much the same as MEK.
Both require a ton of elbow grease.
Jasco Premium stripper- Doesn't touch the Primer. The paint was already off so I do not know how it works on that.
Any other suggestions?

Re: Primer stripper
I finally found a paint stripper that works.
This stuff even gets off powder coat paint. It still take a bit of scrubbing with a a plastic brush and some elbow grease and scotch bright to get the zinc Chromate primer off but it does work. If you have access to a power washer that would probably work too. On a flap that I bought the paint on it I think was Imron. None of the other strippers I tried would touch it. This loosened it up within an hour.
It comes from Solvent Kleene, Peabody Mass.
It is called D-Zolve GL-15-33R. It looks like Pepto Bismal.
The only problem is they will only sell to businesses. And 5 gallons at a time. If you are doing an entire airplane you will need it.

Re: Primer stripper
Unless I’m mistaken, do put stripper on the gear legs. I believe some may cause hydrogen embrittlement.

Re: Primer stripper
Yes I did, IPad likes to mess with me, don’t understand why.
Good catch, I’m not certain about not using stripper, I was told that long ago, seemed to pass the common sense test, but I do not have any data to support that statement, so I didn’t strip my gear when I repainted the aircraft.
