I found the reject notice. AT&T had put it in the spam filter. It was rejected because the oil pump cavity was worn beyond limits. We had seen evidence of wear in journal on the cover plate when we tore it down. I was holding off on buying the oil pump kit from Fresno Airparts until I got the accessory case back, fearing just this outcome.

Been there. Mine had been "refurbed" by DIVCO at engine overhaul -- they had (maybe still have?) a procedure for "bushing" the gear shaft holes if the oil pump bore was within specs. Mine was, but it didn't take but a few hours before it wasn't & the dreaded "loss of prime" was back(!). Then, another shop in Tulsa who had previously been able to actually weld and re-bore the old magnesium cases voiced some hope of doing mine...but, alas, their "mag welding specialist" was no longer available and some of the needed specialized equipment was out of order. We shipped it around several times. It took a while to learn that no-one in the free world is willing to tackle welding & machining the mag oil pump bores. Maybe I'll make a lamp out of that old case :) . There are some good/serviceable 0-200 cases out there -- keep an eye out on Ebay, Barnstormers, TAP, etc.. And, again, if new is available, it may make $en$e(?). Mac

New ones cost about $2200 right now. I may need to go that route, though. I'm about to go up to Faeth Aircraft in Sacramento to see what he has laying around. I'd call, but he often doesn't know what he has himself.

The rest of the case was fine, with just a small repair to a camshaft journal required. The camshaft is on its way back from Aircraft Specialties. I haven't sent the crank or any other internal parts in yet, awaiting word on my medical before I spend big bucks on something like an O-200 crank conversion. I'm not sending any more engine parts in until I find an accessory case.

I found a decent looking core at Faeth Aircraft on Bradshaw Road in Sacramento. It wasn't cheap, though. He has others. One other one didn't have scoring in the pump cavity. It'll go out to DivCo for inspection/overhaul tomorrow. I checked with Nickson Machine in Santa Maria, California, but they don't do magnesium. So it'll be DivCo with its eight-week backlog.

That's great news! With a DIVCO refurb (+ new gears/cover, prob?) you'll be set. RE the medical, & if it would fit your mission, "Basic Med" works well these days for a lot of us. Good luck and thanks for the updates. Mac

I need to get a special issuance on a 3rd Class before I can qualify for Basic Med. I had a stroke about 6-1/2 years ago. Symptoms cleared in less than an hour, and I haven't had any after-effects or recurrances. That doesn't mean I don't have a major bureaucratic hurdle to clear.

Were you denied? If not, and you held a valid Class 3 medical 6 1/2 years ago (or any time in the past 10 years), you do not need to have it reissued. If you reapplied and were denied, and not subsequently reinstated any time in the last 10 years then, yes, you will need to get reinstated first. (Confusing, huh?)

I re-applied because I was going to have to tell them, anyway. It's on the Basic Med form. Lying or withholding information on federal forms would negatively impact my career in the federal government.They didn't deny the application (I think because they exceeded the 60-day deadline), but they want more info. The the symptoms faded within an hour, and I've had no symptoms in the 6-1/2 years since. FAA will likely want a battery of tests that I want to get, anyway.

I'm facing the same issue with a red tagged Accessory case on my C-85-12 from Central Cylinder in Omaha.

Reading online it seems that Drake Air in Tulsa, at least in the past, has had some success welding and machining these magnesium cases.

Does anyone have any experience with them?
