Re: Location of the aircraft's Data Plate
This pic is laying on it's side, but the data plate is at the pilot's left thigh on the forward door post. As far as I know, this is the location of all data plates.
If the data plate is not attached there, there should be 4 holes at this location for each corner of the plate.
I'm sure someone will get you a better pic that's oriented correctly!
Hope this helps.

Re: Location of the aircraft's Data Plate
The 1946's, 120's and 140's had them up on the top of the glareshield in front of the pilot. The idea being that someone could read it through the windscreen standing outside. As I sit and type here I'm not certain when it was moved to the door post just below the bottom edge of the instrument panel on the pilot side. (preceding post)
Certainly all 1947's and later aircraft had the data plate on the door post, but many, many 1946's it's on top of the glareshield. I don't have the s/n cut off..........

Thanks Ken and Victor for the information on the 46 data plate location. This is a good example of the collective knowledge of the members of the Association. If there's a answer you cant find anywhere else, probably someone here will have it!

The way I read 45.11(e) is:tonycondon wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 9:31 am While you're looking around make sure this an external ID as well per 45.11(e)
If the data plate is mounted on the dash (like mine is) then I do not need an external data plate.
If it is down on the door post as pictured, an external data plate will need to be installed.
I remember just after this regulation came into effect in 1988 installing several data plates on airplanes based on the airfield I was working at.
