Door Seals

Post by 8246 »

Happy winter... I think my cabin heat would be much more effective if the door seals were doing their job. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to obtain door seals that can do the job?

Thanks,
Logan

Wag Aero sells it and probably Univair.

I think the material from Univair and Wag-Aero is a generic seal and is not exactly right. Not sure how well it would work. The material Tye was selling is a duplicate of the original he had specially made. Next time I'm out at the hangar I'll look for his contact information, unless someone else pipes up first.

John C is correct, as usual. I think I saw Tye on here in the recent past. IIRC his material is/was bulk special made stock, so you cut to fit at installation. Let's give Tye time to come online, he may have residual stock he needs to sell, wasn't making money, just helping us folks. If you'll don't hook-up shortly, I'm sure I have an order of his in my hangar stock that I can make available at cost.

contact info: tye@Leakpath.com from an older membership book (just don't tell him I told you) :D

I too may be interested! But then again mines the heat will cook you out so maybe bad door seals are good CO insurance! Lol

The seals Tye was having made work very well, as the original design was intended. I used them on mine.

Mention the word "Stearman" and maybe Tye will show up. ;)

I emailed Tye, he replied, I sent him money, he sent me door seals. I have installed them on the right side door and now have the seal clamped under some wood to hopefully make it lay more flat. It's nearly impossible to close the door right now but I'm sure that will change as soon as I warm them up and have them set flat for a while. They are an exact reproduction from what I can tell.

Bill Rhoades also had a run of the original seal made that he sold to members several years back. He may still have a supply of the seal material available. His address is in the membership book.
