rudder cable free play

My 140 has about 1.5" of slack in the rudder cables. Is this normal?

Check the rudder return springs at the rudder pedals.

Yes, the only tension on the rudder cables is from the pedal return springs. The adjustment is only to get the rudder pedals in the right place, 6" fromof the firewall.
