Upper Cowling Hinge Type

Post by steve140 »

Hi would anyone know what MS# is appropriate for the hinges on the top of the cowl? Mines apart for a crack repair and I want to change the hinges. Can't find a part # on mine.

What year is your 140? The 1946 doors have a forward edge tab that tucks under the center section of the cowling. The hinge pins and hinge length differ by about 4" (shorter). BTW, you can make a 1946 door go on a 1947-48 but about 1/2" of the leading edge will need to be trimmed to match. Everything else, the latches and sides, the trailing edge, etc., fits and lines up.

For the 1946 doors, the hinge numbers are as follows:
35-1 - Hinge Pin - Cowl - # 0452106-3
35-26 - Hinge Half - Cowl (Right) - # 0452106-4
35-3 - Hinge Half - Cowl (Left) - # 0452106-5

For the 1947-48 doors, they are:
36-1 - Hinge Pin - (Cowl Hood) - NAS41-2-24.687
36-3 - Hinge Half - Cowl - # 0452188 (fits left or right)

Good hunting. Steve
