​NetJets Crash in Texas Kills 1, Injures 5

One passenger was killed and five other people injured in the crash of a business jet onto Loop 20 in Laredo, Texas, on Tuesday night.

The crash happened around 10 p.m. CDT.

According to local authorities, the aircraft, a NetJets-operated Cessna Citation Latitude, had departed San José del Cabo, Mexico, and was originally headed to Austin, Texas. The crew reported a mechanical problem then diverted to Laredo International Airport (KLRD).

The aircraft came down approximately 2.5 miles from KLRD, striking a moving vehicle on the road. Authorities have not released any information about possible injuries to the occupants of the ground vehicle.

According to Austin’s KEYE-TV, the fatality aboard the jet has been reported as Capital Factory co-founder and CEO Joshua Baer. According to Baer’s LinkedIn profile, Austin-based Capital Factory helps entrepreneurs find investors, customers, and employees.

For more than 20 years Baer assisted local entrepreneurs in launching and growing businesses across Texas. According to a statement from the company, under Baer’s leadership Capital Factory became one of the state’s most influential startup incubators and venture networks, connecting founders with investors, mentors, and corporate partners.

Video of the accident scene shows an aircraft on its side and burning while first responders attempt to reach the persons on board by breaking out the windscreen. The other five people on board were rescued and transported to a local hospital for treatment. The nature of their injuries were not disclosed. Five Laredo police officers were also injured during the rescue efforts.

The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the accident investigation.
