Tecnam Aircraft has unveiled what it calls “MOSAIK59,” described as a new product family created specifically to take advantage of the new privileges granted under MOSAIC, the FAA’s Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification regulations.
According to a Tecnam news release, MOSAIK59 represents a “dedicated product family engineered specifically to maximize the new privileges available to sport pilots and the wider aviation community.”
MOSAIC rules redefine light sport aircraft (LSA) by replacing the weight limits with performance-based criteria, which broadens the number of aircraft sport pilots can fly. Under MOSAIC, sports pilots who obtain additional training and endorsement will be eligible to fly four-place aircraft, aircraft with retractable landing gear and constant-speed propellers, and multiengine aircraft.
“When we read the (MOSAIC) rule for the first time, we thought it was shaped around our mission, now more than ever confirmed—making flying easier, safer, and accessible for everyone,” said Giovanni Pascale Langer, managing director at Tecnam. “MOSAIC opens a new era of opportunities across the aviation community. Tecnam is ready to tailor our most trusted platforms to help more people access aviation with plug-and-play solutions. ‘Your Ambition. Our Wings’ is now stronger than ever with MOSAIC.”
According to Tecnam, the name MOSAIK59 is a fusion of two core principles guiding the manufacturer’s engineering:
- MOSAI: Modular Optimized Sport Aviation Initiative—the company’s continued commitment to modular design of aircraft that can serve multiple missions, from primary flight training to high-performance, cross-country travel.
- K59: Represents the 59-knot clean stall speed, the critical performance metric defined by the FAA that unlocks the ability for sport pilots to operate a larger variety of aircraft.
Tecnam’s MOSAIK59 product line includes:
- P92 Echo MkII: It’s the most accessible entry point to the Tecnam family. Designed with a gross weight of 1,320 pounds and powered by a Rotax 912iS engine, the aircraft is a proven design capable of training sport pilots and providing a cost-effective platform for pilot time building.
- P2008 Next Generation (NG): With an increased maximum takeoff weight (MTOW), pilots can now fly with full fuel and two adults on board with room to spare. Customers have a choice between the high-performance Rotax 916iS or 912iS, with an optional airframe parachute system available.
- Astore GT: Described as the “pinnacle of the MOSAIK59 lineup,” this relaunched low-wing design is powered by the 160 hp Rotax 916iS. The aircraft has an air conditioning system and optional airframe parachute.
- P2010: The four-place P2010 design has been refined and now meets the MOSAIC 59-knot stall requirement. For the first time, sport pilots can command a fully certified four-seat aircraft (limited to one passenger per MOSAIC), powered by either Lycoming engines or the jet-A-1 Continental CD-170.
- P2006T NG: This design brings the opportunity for multiengine flight to the LSA category. The Part 22 MOSAIC version is fully compliant with the 59-knot stall speed rule, allowing flight schools and private owners to operate a certified twin under sport pilot privileges.
According to Tecnam, the MOSAIK59 fleet allows flight schools to offer capable aircraft with lower operating costs and take clients from student to commercial pilot certification by transitioning them through primary trainers, instrument and complex aircraft, and multiengine “all within the same manufacturer’s ecosystem.”
About MOSAIC
MOSAIC was 20 years in the works, created out of years of information gleaned from the creation of LSA and sport pilot certification. The new rules were released in July 2025 and have been systematically phased in.
